Hey everyone! Hopefully you have all seen my What to Do With Your Pumpkins post from earlier this week which is all about how to use up those pumpkins you've had around your house this fall or for thanksgiving decorations :)
So today I'm going to tell you how to make your own homemade pumpkin mash (like the kind you buy in a can at the supermarket).
It's surprisingly the easiest thing ever to make and tastes SO MUCH BETTER than buying the canned kind. When you make your pies or cupcakes you can really tell the difference :)
So after you cook your pumpkin like I explained in my previous post you can go about this two ways
1. If you don't have an electric mixer use a grater (like for cheese) to grate the peeled pumpkin because it basically mashes it for you. Then take something heavy...I took that wooden masher that we have for making jams (we do it every year from the fruit trees at our cabin) and then mash the pumpkin until it is relatively smooth
2. If you have an electric mixer use it to blend the pumpkin until smooth (this way is far easier haha but we didn't have one)
I like to spice my pumpkin mash because the flavors really come out since the spices have time to really soak in. I added Cinnamon and Gingerbread Spice which is the same thing as pumpkin pie spice (in Europe pumpkin pie spice doesn't exist but you can buy packets of spice to make gingerbread and it's basically the same ingredients)
Then bake away!
(if you don't use all of the pumpkin mash stick it in the freezer and thaw it out the next time you want to bake!)
