Battle of the Micellar Waters

Hey everyone today I'm going to talk about how well these Micellar waters stand up to each other. Now we all have those lazy girl days where we just want to take our makeup off quickly and go to sleep.

Gone are the days of makeup wipes because there's a new kid on the block and all the  brands are interested. Bioderma, a French brand was the original one that started the craze and now L'Oreal, Garnier, and a lot of other brands (some are Polish or European so I won't mention them) have hopped on the bandwagon.

To test these out basically what I have done is just take my makeup off with the Micellar water and then not wash my face and see if I have any skin issues or acne in the morning.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection (Ideal Soft in Europe) Micellar Water- (200ml) I don't think this one lives up to Bioderma at all. I feel like this leaves a strange film on my skin when I use it and it has this SLIGHT smell that I can't put my finger on. Some people don't even smell it…but after I use this I feel like there's a film or a layer left on my skin. I did have some skin problems the mornings after so I don't think this one takes your makeup off entirely or clogs my skin up. I also had to use quite a bit of product, it takes two whole rectangular cotton pads and sometimes two round ones for my eyes. (and I still have to wash my face after)

Garnier Cleansing Micellar Water- (400ml) When I bought this, I was going in to buy a different micellar water, and I saw this beauty sitting near to L'Oreal Micellar water and it was 2PLN more (so like 50 cents) for double the amount. I'm always a fan of a good bargain so I figured I'd try it out. HOLY, MOLY. If you wanted a dupe for Bioderma then here it is ladies and gents. I took my makeup off with this and then fell asleep because I've ben pulling all nighters for my finals for medical school. I woke up and my skin felt soft and clean and not tight. Didn't put any moisturizer or toner on and my skin looked like a dream. I do think you have to use a tiny bit more product than with Bioderma but far less product than the L'Oreal one. I could take a full face of makeup off with one of those big square cotton pads. (this one also claims you get 200 uses out of it, so 2 ml a use…i don't know if thats true. I think it's relative to how much makeup you wear)

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water- (500ml) Now this is the one everyone knows and loves, except their wallet doesn't. It's hard to find, expensive (well more expensive than anyone would like) but no one has found an actual dupe for it. Until now. The Garnier one is a legitimate dupe for everyone's beloved bioderma. No smell, not irritating, almost feels like it moisturizes the skin, and takes off almost every last bit of makeup.

All in all I feel extremely confident saying that the Garnier Micellar Water is a complete dupe for Bioderma and is a lot more wallet friendly. You may have to use a tad more but not that much. That dent I've made in the bottle is after about 3 or 4 uses I think?

Here's to all the lazy girls that are horrible about taking their makeup off and would like more money to spend on buying makeup (since there will be a lot more money in your wallet).

Try it! Try it! Try it! Or have you already?

  2. this is the closest dupe I've found. It even didn't make my skin feel tight or strip it. i literally took my makeup off and fell asleep accidentally and my skin was beautiful in the morning

  3. Completely agree about the loreal one and the film it leaves always feel like I have to wash my face afterwards!

  4. Same! otherwise it breaks me out. I just consider the L'Oreal one a normal makeup remover and as you can see I used the entire bottle…won't be repurchasing thats for sure

  5. I have a feeling the L'Oreal one broke me out a little bit, so I'm super excited to try that Garnier one! I'm also going to France in the summer, so hopefully I can find myself some Bioderma and see what all the fuss is about!!

Thanks for sharing, this has been seriously useful! - you have a lovely blog :)

  6. the L'Oreal one would DEFINITELY break me out if I didn't wash my face afterwards. the garner one feels just like water. like bioderma. I do find bioderma is a tiny bit better at getting super waterproof mascara off. when you go to france you NEED to buy this favorite face wash ever its amazing and i don't have oily skin so don't let that mislead you

  7. Ah thank you so much!! That really does look great and the reviews are so positive too, I think I'll start writing a little list. You've been ever so helpful! :) x

  8. That's amazing! La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo had a similar effect on me, perhaps both together create the ultimate unclogging team?! x

  15. I love the Garnier one but it just comes out really quick! Its what I always use though!!
I love how it leaves no horrible residue on skin afterwards which other ones don't.

  19. damn! I just bought the Loreal one :( was debating between that and Garnier. looks like I picked the wrong one x

    ReplyDelete
  20. its okay the loreal one is half the size and takes about twice as much to get your makeup off. make sure you wash your face after, because myself and a lot of other people break out if they don't. how big is the price difference between the two when you were looking at them to buy? its only like 30 p different over here

    ReplyDelete
  21. me too! its so great and doesn't leave your skin feeling tight after

    ReplyDelete
  22. shouldn't be too hard to find i think it is relatively new though

    ReplyDelete
  23. i just put the cotton pad on top and tip the bottle over…maybe that will help you :)
and agree the other ones are just like filmy afterwards and i feel like the garner one almost moisturizes my skin!

    ReplyDelete
  24. aw thanks so much! I hope you find it! it's amazing

  25. far better than the l'oreal. and i love that you don't have to wash your face after if you don't want to

    ReplyDelete
  26. i can't find the duo one here just effacar-k. but I'm sure it would be the best unclogging team for sure

  27. I have never tried any of those above, but you sound very convincing about Garnier cleansing water, will definitely try it after finish the old one. <3 Zhanna, www.stylehenge.com

  29. it's amazing!!!! i would recommend it to a random person on the street wearing makeup. and it didn't break me out and my skin is sensitive to leaving make up on (I get at least one spot every time I don't take my makeup off, or just use the L'Oreal one and don't wash my face after)

    ReplyDelete
  30. thanks glad you liked it! its so fab i can't rave enough!

    ReplyDelete
  31. aw thanks so much I'm glad I answered all of your questions!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've already tried the Bioderma and yes, it's amazing! I agree with you it's not the cheapest and I stopped buying it to try drugstore make-up remover. My favourite one is the Nivea Eye make-up remover!

  44. if not feel unique ships internationally for free i think! it's the one I linked it too so most of my readers can get it :):):) Hope you get to try it!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. then you'll definitely like the garnier one! because it's cheaper than the l'oreal one and wayyyyyyyyy cheaper than bioderma. Where i bought it, it's twice the size of the loreal one and was like 0.50 more in price lol (only reason i tried it)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Really i'll have to try that one because I wear contacts so I need to wear waterproof mascara (in my case) and it's not always the easiest to get off. But for the rest of your face makeup this one is amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. haha are you happy you did? Once you go through your bioderma give the garnier one a try! it's basically the same and way cheaper

    ReplyDelete
  48. feel unique ships to the states! (internationally i think for free, or for really cheap) that's why I linked it so most of you guys could get it :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree with her entirely

    ReplyDelete
  50. me too!!!!!!! but try the garnier one if you can get your hands on it! it's sooo similar. plus if you don't like it it's so cheap not muchh money wasted haha (but if you like bioderma you'll like the garnier one)

    ReplyDelete
  51. same!!!! don't get me wrong I still adore my bioderma. But the garnier one is more purse friendly and I'm a med student with no money lol :D

    ReplyDelete
  52. I will give it a try soon and will let you know :)

  53. Ooh, excellent post! When I run out of Bioderma I am going to try the Garnier :)
