Spring Trend: Tangerine Lips (and How Everyone Can Wear Them)

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to come over here and talk about one of the hottest spring trends: a tangerine lip. I know that when you hear the phrase "Tangerine Lip" maybe you're a bit pre cautious, maybe you say no way, or maybe you just want to hear my favorite ones for some recommendations!

In this post, basically I'm going to show you three classes of tangerine lip colors from very bold to very mild (more like a peach) so that anyone can read this post and find a product they feel comfortable wearing. If you want to know how to wear them, I always go a minimalistic route with the rest of the makeup on my face so the focus is all on my lips. I like nice glowing skin, maybe use your bronzer or highliter and just sweep it across your lids, add some mascara, a light warm blush, and your tangerine lip and you're ready to hit the catwalks! Even though that was the look that was ruling the catwalks of fashion week, it's also how I choose to wear bold lips.
If you're afraid of bold lips overpowering your face just tone down the rest of your makeup. Most of the time I just do my face makeup, a strong brow, mascara, and my bold lip and I'm out the door. (Another reason why I love bold lips: you look so pulled together and like you spent hours doing your makeup where it actually took you five or ten minutes.)

Bold and Bright- The Makeup Addict

My favorite picks for the more adventurous bold lip lover are these three. As you can see they are super bright and these are also very opaque lippies. They range in prices (which is good!) so that anyone can buy at least one of them if you're looking for an orange lip.

The pop beauty crayon is basically a neon tangerine coral.

The Inglot lipstick is my favorite because it is such a true tangerine with a hint of pink undertones which helps prevent your teeth from looking yellow, and it has the best staying power of any lipstick I've tried. I fell asleep with it on (nap time) and when I woke up there wasn't any orange on my white pillow case and it still looked perfect on my lips (so it does stain your lips a bit, but is so moisturizing.)

I also really love the beautyuk options because they are such good quality for such a low price that if you want to experiment with how this bright of a color looks on you, they are the way to go!

Middle Ground- The Makeup Lover

Although the lippies in this picture look VERY similar in color to the first picture, these are more sheer. You can certainly build them up to a brighter color, but one layer is a sheer version and is a lot more wearable.

My favorite by far is the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Stain in Corail Aquatique because you put it on and it stains your lips that color for the entire day. No reapplication needed.

MAC Costa Chic is more of a brighter pink based orange, and is such a good color with a tan in the spring and summer I think anyone can pull this color off, it's bright but not in your face.

The Maybelline Color whisper is pigmented but feels so thin on your lips you hardly notice it but is a true 100% orange (the name is Orange Attitude!).

And finally in this category, a product I'm sure many of you are familiar with, a Revlon Lip Butter! (Tutti Frutti) This color needs reapplying more than the other two because it is so moisturizing that it comes off on cups and when you eat, etc. but this is the most buildable color of them all. You can simply dab it on with your finger and sheer it out or build it up to the color you see in the tube (and anywhere in between).

The Basics - Beginners or for the Less Bold Makeup Wearers

These lippies are more of a peach instead of a tangerine, but I think of these as more of a gateway into the brighter colors. I know when I started wearing makeup I was scared to death of bright orange lips, and in some places I worked I could only wear a very muted lip color. So these products all fall under those categories.

The most pigmented definitely has to be the NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel, it is very pigmented, very moisturizing, and smells just like cake!

The most moisturizing has to be the MAC Tendertone (I don't remember the name, it was part of that cooking collection they did) it was limited edition but they usually come out with more every year or every two years (usually in the summer I believe). This one gives a slight tint of an orange but is really a very glossy lip balm that smells wonderful.

The last two woud fall more under the peach category than the others but I decided to throw them in because for a while I even steered clear of peach lippies. My favorites that I have found are the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Charm, and the Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle. I have very pigmented lips so they show up on me very lightly, but for someone that doesn't have naturally pigmented lips these would be perfect to start off with (good for us girls with pigmented lips too though! But I would go for the others still.)

they are literally the best lipsticks in the whole entire world. I adore them! and they just came out with a new BRIGHT matte line! I'm dying for them!

  26. You've featured a lot of different brands that I've never even heard of before, how shameful is that for a beauty blogger! It's really nice to be able to discover different products that way. Probably because we're based in different countries but it's so interesting the differences in availability. All the colours you've chosen are gorgeous, I'm loving a bright lip at the moment particularly a lovely orange! xx
