Photo Vacation 2014 Part 2 // Hawaii

Hey everyone! Here is part two of my photo vacation posts, this time all about Hawaii! (If you haven't seen my first one about Vegas you can find it here) I was lucky enough to be able to go to Hawaii this summer because I attended a medical conference through UCSF for doctors (I get to go even though I'm not technically an MD yet because both of my parents are), and being smart doctors love to have their conferences in tropical vacation areas!

So I would go to the conference from 6am-12pm and they would feed us breakfast and then I had the rest of the day free to do whatever I wanted with my mom.

I just wanted to say I think it's hilarious the food that they put out at medical conferences versus regular breakfast places. Downstairs in the hotel there was a breakfast buffet place with typical breakfast foods- pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, waffles, juices (probably from concentrates-yuck!)..you name it. But for the conference laid out beautifully was the biggest selection of fresh fruit ever, whole grain sprouted bread, an oatmeal bar with toppings like blueberries, raspberries etc. (I would just take a bowl and fill it up with the blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries and eat that!), and they also had hard boiled eggs, tea, coffee, and water. I mean I was in heaven with the breakfasts they gave us but I could definitely see some people weren't happy. Hey! They're giving you things to fit in with the healthy life style (most) doctors have, everyone should have been as grateful as I was! Especially because I hate breakfast food...I eat fruit almost every morning or granola with yogurt or milk (that was another option! the BEST tropical granola I've ever tried so naturally I asked them what brand and I brought some home with me) so the breakfast was perfect!

Sorry for that little story shoved in there, I just thought it was pretty funny.

These are all pictures of the Big Island (I've been to Maui before too, but this time we were just on this island). **photo heavy**

I want to bike around the islands so desperately! I think that would be the most fun thing to do, especially near the volcanoes! Our last trip to Hawaii we went and explored inside the volcanoes (they're dormant) you can see on of them in the horizon of this shot.

The cool thing about the main island is there is so much lava rock everywhere, like this park is dedicated to it; there are also black sand beaches (from the lava rock of course) and did you know there's a legend that if you take the black sand from the beaches the Hawaiian gods will bestow bad luck on you until you return it? I'm not risking that one!

There are also active lava floes emptying into the oceans that you can go by boat and physically see! So cool.

A beautiful view of the water while driving

Here is the view from our hotel as we stood in the lobby and looked out into the ocean. We stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel in Puako and it was GORGEOUS! You guys may recognize some of these sights if you follow me on instagram! (insert shameless follow me plug here)

Here is our BEAUTIFUL hotel room, just look how gorgeous it is. The bathroom was almost as big as this room, and there's a giant flatscreen on the wall on the right side of that picture above the dresser.

This is the view off of our balcony. You really can't beat Hawaiian sunsets

This is the beach from that picture I showed earlier at the hotel, at sunset (the most beautiful time of the day obvi - insert my fav emoji here, the girl with her hand out duh)

Here is another sunset, different day from the balcony. I think I took a picture of the sunset every single day because it was gorgeous every day!

Some BEAUTIFUL flowers at a farmers market. The guy there sold me a papaya for $0.01! I was ecstatic and ate it later that day for a snack. I also bought apple bananas from him - if you've never tried them, you need them in your life. They're AMAZING.

This place. DA FISH HOUSE? REALLY? The name, the food, it was right on the water in a beautiful harbor (looking the opposite way is the very first picture in this post), everything about this place was true love.

Look at these beautiful fish tacos I ate from there....best fish tacos of life. Trust me I'm a Californian I eat breathe and sleep tacos and burritos and these were fabulous.

Here's another shot of the harbor this was on, so cute I love it.

This restaurant... So I HATE spinach pesto, and only agreed to go here because my mom wanted to. Man was I pleasantly surprised.

I had a BBQ chicken pizza with red onions, goat cheese, and CILANTRO LIME PESTO. Should I say that again? CILANTRO LIME! Holy cow it was heaven. Whoever thought up that creation should be sainted.

Wherever I go I always do my ice cream experimenting and test out every place I come across. If you read my blog you know ice cream is my number one food group and the root of all food guilt for me. This is the tiniest little walk up window where the ice cream is fab and the shaved ice is even better. They probably had 100 flavors of shaved ice syrup (not exaggerating)

The day I didn't get a shaved ice (my shaved ice was blackberry-lemongrass & lavender-basil for anyone wondering and it was heaven in a cup, but I dug in before taking a pic oops) this ice cream was called Lava Flow. It was banana ice cream with strawberry swirls and oreos in it, DAMN it was good!

This is walking up to a beach, all the wildlife in the ponds are to die for. I sat there for probably two hours just watching the ecosystems play out...it was amazing!

I went out of my way to go to this beach in particular because they had hatched the baby sea turtles and it was the season for the turtles that are naturally born in their own habitats and so I wandered around taking that all in.

It was awesome because the beach was either lava rock, white rock, orrrrrrr can anyone guess what that is? CORAL! There was so much coral that had washed up and was now basically a calcified fossil it spanned the entire beach! It was crazy...should be renamed Coral beach!

I hope you guys enjoyed these pictures and there's one more post coming! Keep up with me on my social media linked below, and one of the perks of that is you can see my life as it's happening rather than later through a post.

A HUGE THANK YOU because I just hit 5k bloglovin followers tonight which is crazy. The biggest lecture hall in my med school seats around 800 (they use it for conventions) so imagining even ONE of those filled with people reading my blog is nuts let alone 5? Maybe a little less because we all know about those ghost followers or prize accounts. Anways I am so over the moon THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE YOU ALL!
