We're Just Not Working Out...

It's not me, it's definitely you. Some products just DO NOT work- no matter how many times you try and give them a chance, or how many ways you use them...you just CANNOT make them work!

I usually don't post negative reviews on my blog, but I don't want this to be a place of rainbows and sunshine and daisies either! Because there are DEFINITELY products that I absolutely hate- whether it's the formula, color, texture...whatever! I'm going to talk about them in these kinds of posts!

I don't do monthly favorites/unfavorites because I physically don't have the money to constantly try new things often enough to do that, and when I find something good I stick with it! But now I do think I'm going to start doing these posts every so often when I've acquired things that REALLY stand out to me (good or bad) and do these posts! What do you guys think?

GASP, SHOCK, HORROR! I know I know...this is a cult favorite. Cult favorite or not, I CANNOT stand this foundation. I use the shade N1, and yes the color is a perfect match for me (like 60% of the year)- okay "True Match" so far so good it does what the name is implying. ANDDD that's where anything good stops.

No matter how much or how little I apply, what I apply it with (brush, hands, sponge, flat top brush, foundation brush-you name it!) it often looks streaky and takes a bit of work to tame that. It always highlights dry patches-most of the time these are dry patches that I didn't know existed before I put the foundation on (NO OTHER FOUNDATION SHOWS THEM). THEN it never sets. I can walk around for an hour without touching my face...won't set. I can apply so much powder that it looks like a total cake face, and then I go to do my brows and I can feel the foundation sliding around.

I have tried every primer on the face of the earth with this (I get samples of them from counters etc) and no luck with that, I've tried so many different moisturizers with it...no luck either. And if i do decide to wear it, by the end of the day it looks absolutely horrendous. Patchy, splotchy, and it has sunken into every crack and crevasse in my face. The weirdest part is I really like True Match Lumi. I don't understand it at all!!!!!!

I listed this as number one for a reason, I promise the rest won't have rants as long as this one I just hate this foundation and everyone else is so obsessed with it!

Rimmel London BB Cream - Light $6.99

I took this on vacation with me to Mexico last year and gave this a good run for almost a month. I wanted to like this because it has SPF 25 in it and theoretically would have been perfect for being in the sun. BUT this is straight up Orange. If you're going for the orange face look then this is for you but I don't think anyone is. This is also an incredibly thick cream that feels heavy on your face and I think because it's so thick it slides right off.

Well this stuff creases like a mofo and it creases really badly on me no matter how I set it or if I even set it! It is also just the wrong color. I have it in the lightest shade but it comes off such a pink (like rosy pink) color on me it looks terrible. I know everyone complains about the sponge (which I took off because it was worthless) but that isn't even my problem with this concealer. AND to top it all off it didn't even cover my dark circles. A product that says DARK CIRCLE TREATMENT AND CONCEALER that doesn't do any of those....no thank you.

I actually genuinely like this product except for the fact that it tends to clog your pores badly if you don't REALLY clean your face, but it's a wonderful product. EXCEPT the shade light is oompa loompa orange. I have it also in the shade fair and it is a beautiful match! But this "Light" nonsense....get your shit together L'Oreal! It's straight orange (and I'm not the only person who thinks this, I've talked to plenty of other people with the same opinion). I bought this when it first came out and the fair option didn't exist, so I had to buy "Light" - bad decision. However the fair one is gorgeous...but the moral of the story here ladies and gents is don't settle for the light shade thinking "Oh i'll just make it work" (I'm SO guilty of that) because this WILL NOT work like that in your favor.

So I realize this tube is in Polish, but you may have this product in your country. It is marketed as "a 2 in 1 Moisturizing Cream and Light Primer" (translating the tube) and looks like a tinted moisturizer and I think is meant to go under your makeup or you can wear it alone as it has some coverage. So it squeezes out and looks straight brown, then you rub it in and the color evens out as it is supposed to be a universal color thing (yeah no...we all know how well those work). So you rub it into your skin and get some color, and again! This product never sets! But this takes never setting to a whole new level. Like this shit is ridiculous. I can take my finger 4 hours later, swipe it down the side of my face and there will be a big streak the size of my finger where I wiped because I literally just wiped the product off. Normally Nivea has amazing products and I love them all....f you see this shit DONT BUY IT!

I've had these for a LONG time, as in I bought them when I first started wearing makeup. Now Urban Decay I don't think makes these anymore (but not too long ago they were in the sale section of their website) but I'm sure these will pop up on sites that sell for cheaper as like excess...you get what I mean. DO NOT be tempted because these are Urban Decay. These are supposed to be a cream blush "without the greasy feel, just the glow" but they definitely don't live up to that claim. They are super thin in consistency and are really greasy feeling. The lasting power sucks, and the blendability is terrible. They are super pigmented, but if you put it somewhere slightly off to where you want it you're screwed it's staying there. But instead of giving a nice dewy glow that most cream blushes give, it looks like you have oily skin.

So there you have it! The first installment of products that just didn't work out. Would you guys like this to become a series? Also, anyone have any short witty names for favorites? Haha!

I hope you liked this post and let me know some products you just can't stand!!!

  1. Oooh would love to hear more about products that suck...my money is precious and I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of it! I have the True Match foundation and quite liked it (only thing is that the color was waaaay off) but mine comes in a totally different bottle packaging than yours O_o Mine doesn't have a pump and it's more cylindrical. Maybe they sell different formulas depending on the country?

The Maybelline concealer worked really well for me because it's lightweight and I don't have major darkness underneath my eyes but the twisting mechanism broke somehow so I couldn't twist up any more product...got a refund though! :D I've heard that Bobbi Brown correctors are really good for intense dark circles but das expensive...I haven't really found a good one from the drugstore but Maybelline's Fit Me concealer works well for me too. I have it in the shade Medium, which is a shade or two too dark for me but it has a wonderfully orange undertone to neutralize my bluish/purple under eye darkness. I don't usually set my undereye but as I don't move that part of my face too much, there's no need to pile on the product just because some other beauty Youtuber does so xD

  2. I hate it when you have high hopes for a product and you just can't get it to work for you. Especially when it seems to work for everyone else! Great post!

  3. no its the same formula, i've tried it in the other bottle too from friends that had it just to check. in like a little bottle that looks like a juice bottle with a twist off cap? same formula. it just hates my face lol.

broke for me too! But it works if you push the red part back down really hard and then all the product like spurts out....it's just a disaster. but hey i gave it a good run...all of these products are at least half used! Even the true match.

I have another photo taken of more products like this so alrightey i'll keep up the series! I agree I want to get the best of the best not just some cult crap a you tuber got for free and is trying to sell to get money off of. I want stuff that is quality and works :)

  4. YES!!!!!!! It's the worst! Makes me feel like I'm the one doing something wrong haha but I just have to keep telling myself we all have different skin etc. so products are never a one product fits all :) Thank you! Glad you liked :)

  5. I had the same problem with the True Match foundation, it was so tragic, definitely not something I'd try again. I haven't tried out any of these other products but I guess I know not to now haha.

  6. thank goodness I'm not alone!!!! I've only found one other person through twitter that hated it/had such a bad experience like I did. The weirdest part is True Match Lumi is totally fine..... I don't get it.

Hey I mean you can test some of them out but I think if True Match didn't work for you we have similar skin types so I would probably steer clear. Do you have any HG foundations?

  7. I had the exact same problem with the True Match foundation! I felt like it was too runny and thin, so it just moved and slipped around my face. It also highlighted dry patches so badly that some days after applying it, I had to wash it all off again because it looked so awful!

  8. I'm sorry to disagree with you, for me True Match was great.

  9. I Haven't tried any of these, but right now I'm also not really getting along with my Bobbi Brown foundation :(

  10. Wow, the Maybelline Age Rewind was a shocker, since this is so popular with many American gurus! True Match didn't set on me either! ):

  11. I couldn't agree with you more about the Rimmel BB Cream - even light is way too dark for my skin (although I am 'lives under a rock' kind of pale).
It just feels icky, it's icky. But I keep it in my make up drawer anyway - it's like a pair of shoes I'll never wear again but I don't have the heart to throw away!

  12. I'm glad it works for you! I hear great things from the people it works for :) but that's just the whole point of this post! To talk about things that do work for a lot of people but just don't work for me and why. Some people have the same feelings on some of these products so their skin type is similar to mine and some of the other products I mention may work the same way on them as they do on me, so its helpful to them :) like the concealer may work amazingly on you since true match did as well, it just didn't on me :) thanks for reading!

  13. OMG! I should've washed it off every time I just wanted it to work so badly and was hoping that every way I'd try it that it would look better. You know how some foundations look better after like n hour after they really mesh with yours skin...I think I like secretly hoped that would happen every time I tried a new technique with it (as you can see it's half gone) but nope never worked lol

    ReplyDelete
  14. oh no!!! I've heard that foundation is either you adore it or abhor it! and i've heard it's super yellow? I'll steer clear of that one!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Have you tried it? Yeah it's so pink on me (in a bad way, not like salmon dark circle canceler pink..like rosy blush pink) and it creases so badly. I have no idea how it doesn't crease on them or they aren't being totally honest with us haha (or theres some secret tip i don't know about!!!) i'll stick with my MAC pro long wear concealer! Definitely want to try the LA girl concealer, i've heard it's a dupe!

  16. I saw someone that had the Rimmel BB cream in a shade like Fairest Light or something strange like that...I've never seen it but maybe that one is less orange. Yeah it's really really thick! I'm not sure what i'm going to do with these haha at the moment I've stuck them back in a separate drawer...it's like makeup jail. I'll probably let my friends nosy through it when they come over lol but I feel ya I couldn't throw them away either (except maybe the Nivea one...)

  17. It's great to get honest reviews on blogs so thank you! Shame you didn't get on with the Maybelline Age Rewind and L'Oreal True Match - I absolutely love them and I think (on me) they perform much better than some very expensive foundations and concealers I have. A product that I really hated was the benefit they're real push up liner - sad but true!

  18. Oh haha no problem doll! I know I'm genuinely sad that they just didn't work on me because they look so nice on everyone else! I'm so happy they work on you though because hey i'll take a lower price for a better product any day! can i get an amen! Really? I don't have it, would LOVE to try it, I tested it in Sephora on my hand and it was crazy water/smudgeproof!!!!! I'll take it off your hands :D just kidding haha. A foundation I really love for less is the Covergirl 3in1/Max Factor Facefinity 3in1 (same foundation)

  19. I know what you mean about negative reviews, they aren't nice to write but people deserve an honest review, even if it's not a good one! And I totally agree with you on the Rimmel BB, so so organge. And the Nivea one turned my skin into breakout central. So I'll be giving those two a miss for sure!

  20. Really enjoyed reading your post!!! I haven't used any of the above products but I know I kinda like a few of them since loads of beauty gurus talked about them (especially the Rimmel BB cream and L'oreal foundation). I'll probably try these 2 out sometimes; hopefully they work on my super oily skin...ugh....

  21. Thanks! Be warned though, I have drier skin and so you would think the foundations would set on me because my skin would absorb the moisture and they never did. And the Rimmel BB cream made me look oily and I don't have oily skin and it oxidizes so I'd try it on your hand and walk around for a while first with both of them. Best of luck! glad you enjoyed the post :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Exactly, That's why I don't write singular reviews negatively, i feel like it's just bashing so hard if you single out one product...but id you kind of group them together and talk about why they didn't work personally for you I don't think it's as mean? People deserve to know the good and the bad! And yeah the freaking BB cream... I saw on someones blog they had a shade that said "Fairest Light" or something weird like that...like an even lighter shade than this one so maybe that's not as orange but it made me look so greasy (and I have dry skin) that I have no desire to try it lol

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ive only tried the Rimmel BB Cream out of them, I was a little unsure on it.I find it a little better when I have a tan. But if I am straight up pale, its a massive no no for me.

  27. no I have the shade light! because when I first got it i even thought to myself aw man i should've gotten the brightening one - you know I'm all about that highlighted life. but this one just looks bad on me. works for others I'm sure I'm just not one of them lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. yeah i agree! it just turns such a different color....and gives that foundation mask line when its a bb cream! terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  29. of course! glad you liked :)

  30. glad you liked it! already have the pictures for another one :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. of course! i mean maybe test the products in the store for yourself, this is just why they don't work for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh really? I only like the colossal one! i HATE the falsies...it looks like weirdly shiny, always wet, always smudges, and solo clumpy on me ! i totally get what you mean

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with the BB creams in fact I can't find any I love but the true match foundation for my problem skin is ammmmazzing, but everything works differently for each skin type xxx

    ReplyDelete
  34. Haha aww! Well, hope you'll have a better experience with the LA girl one! x

    ReplyDelete
  35. Completely agree with you on the True Match foundation (doesn't even match me well enough as I'm super pale) and that Age rewind concealer is bloody awful (colour, creasing and not concealing)- so glad you feel the same as it seems everyone else loves them. Haven't tried any of the other products, and definitely wont now so thanks for saving me some money :0)

    ReplyDelete
  36. yeah if i get my hands on it, I'm sure it will pop up somewhere in a review! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm loving the maybelline dream pure bb cream right now! helps with breakouts too because it has some salicylic acid in it, but it doesn't dry your skin out, doesn't get greasy! so fab! an the sheerer you apply it the lighter the color gets so none of this orange face crap! and man i sincerely wish it worked for me!

    ReplyDelete
  38. YES everything about that concealer you just said is spot on! and i feel ya about the pale girl probs! makes it even more difficult to find a good foundation! and lol glad this post helped you :) especially because it sounds like our skin needs are very similar!!! :) thats why i decided to even do a post like this

    ReplyDelete
  39. As much as I wanted to like the Rimmel BB Cream I found that it was wayyy to orange for my face, so completely agree with you!

  41. I agree, group them all together and get it over with. Kind of like ripping off a band-aid! I went with medium in the BB and I looked like an Oompa Loompa, it was awful. And the formula was just so thick and cakey, such a shame be aside they are normally one of my favourite brands.

  42. That's such a bummer about that maybelline concealer :( It's been on my to buy list for a while but it seems to be off now! Thanks for the heads up

  44. ahahaha thats a good comparison! less painful for everyone and less of a blabbing post. If I wrote about each one by itself "Why I Hate Loreal True Match" it probably would have been longer and sounded meaner haha. and yeah i LOVE otherproduts from all these brands. just not these ones

    ReplyDelete
  45. yeah!!!!!!!! I hear theres another color but it seems to be a rumor like the lochness monster. i think people will just forever be orange if thats their base if choice

    ReplyDelete
  46. ME TOO! I've been going this whole time thinking that! These comments prove otherwise :)

  47. I think there are WAY better concealers on the market! Loving the makeup revolution ones at the moment and I really want to try the LA Girl ones! I hear they're dupes for MAC Pro Longwear (My current HG under eye concealer)
