Hey everyone! Today I have a really exciting post for all you matte lip lovers out there (thats a tongue twister) and there's even a sneaky dupe thrown in at the end where I dupe a well known product that costs $20, whereas these cost £2.99! Woo woo!
So it should come as no surprise that yet again I am posting about Makeup Revolution, we should all know by now that I am a MASSIVE fan of their products - such high quality at such low prices, you can't get much better than that. And if you didn't know they have dupes for MANY popular products, they even JUST came out with dupes for the NARS Multiples that I'm dying to try.
They sent me the entire line of colors generously so that I could give a nice well rounded review for you guys and after testing these out for a few weeks now, I have formulated my opinions on them and can give a super thorough review (because I know you guys love when I ramble on- if you just want to see the swatches, scroll down and there are lip swatches, arm swatches, and the dupe comparison swatches with all the shade names).
There IS a typo on the packaging, they are not High Gloss, they are completely matte (although one has a bit of a sheen but we will get to that later). They are however very waterproof. I had to use a strong makeup remover to get the arm swatches off - just running them under the hot sink water did absolutely nothing - also if my lips look a little red around the edges it's because these are so difficult to get off! I did all the lip swatches in the same lighting all in a row so they could be as true to color as possible.
There are eight shades in the line, ranging from a super nude shade to a deep wine shade, there's even a bright orange thrown in there that doesn't make your teeth look yellow, there's a few fuchsia's, a classic red - basically what I'm saying is they made a very complete and well rounded collection and anyone can go onto the site and find a shade that they like.
These are lip pencils, which I adore because it makes it so easy to apply and get a good clean line. In the lip swatches- that's a quick slightly messy application and they still look amazing, no lip liner needed to get a nice clean line around the edges.
The one issue I have is that the shade names are not on the tubes. I'm sure if you've read the other thousand reviews on these you'll hear it too, but I keep them in the box in my drawer because the tubes don't have the names! They are all black with pink Super Wow! written on them and that's it. There is absolutely no way to tell the difference between them, and two of the shades are very similar so for blogging's sake, I REALLY need to keep those two in the boxes so I know the differences for future reference and appearances in future posts.
Here is what we are all waiting for! The lip swatches! Dun dun dun dahhh! All of these were applied over a tiny tiny tiny bit of lip balm just for a smooth surface, if I was wearing these out I would use my MAC Prep + Prime Lip, so to imitate that I used a lip balm with a similar consistency. To see one of these in action, just look over to the right or look at my Cloud Nine Hair post- I'm wearing the shade Call Me in my blog pic (which is a picture from that post).
There are three shades you have to take your time applying or they can go a little patchy, they are Heart of Glass, Dreaming, and Maria. I think the first two is just because they are so light they can stick to dry patches and you have to focus on getting an even application, and Maria is such a beautiful deep color and so highly pigmented that you can end up with some darker spots if you don't apply it evenly.
Can we appreciate how all of these shades make my teeth look whiter? Especially Atomic! Usually I steer far away from Orange because it makes your teeth look yellow, and i'm very picky with my classic red shades and go for very blue based ones (which Call Me isn't blue based) and these still manage to make my teeth look white.
The two shades I was talking about that look similar are Hanging on the Telephone and Sunday Girl. Hanging on the Telephone is the only shade in the whole line with a bit of a sheen to it, and it is a little deeper of a color, whereas Sunday Girl is a little bit of a brighter magenta. But you can also see here how although Rap-ture looks similar to them in the arm swatches, on the lips it looks entirely different - it leans more towards I would compare it to a wearable St. Germain, barbie pink color.
The way these wear is strange (in a good way)- they are completely dry to the touch, and you think they'd be drying but they actually aren't (especially if you put a bit of lip balm underneath). They are SO long wearing, which is always great for bolder colors.
